Big day in Padreland
On the field, the Padres are rolling. Three straight wins, three straight series wins and 7-2 in their last nine games. Today the Pads welcome the Rockies to town for the second matchup with the division rivals. San Diego took two of three in Colorado 5/13-15.
Off the field, the Padres have a big opportunity with the 2011 First-Year Player Draft kicking off today. Round 1 as well as Compensation Round A will take place this evening, beginning at 4:00 p.m. PT. The Padres have five of the first 58 selections in what Vice President/Assistant General Manager Jason McLeod calls “one of the deepest drafts in recent memory.”
Here is a summary of the Padres first five picks:
10th – Compensation for unsigned first-rounder in 2010 Draft (Karsten Whitson)
25th – Padres regular first-round selection
48th – Compensation for free agent Jon Garland
54th – Compensation for free agent Yorvit Torrealba
58th – Compensation for free agent Kevin Correia
Stay tuned to either the Channel 4 SD or XX 1090 broadcast this evening. Jason McLeod will visit both booths in-game, following tonight’s Draft action, to discuss the Padres selections.
